New Validation Institute Report Affirms Vori Health Care Model Reduces Surgery While Improving Outcomes

When you solve a problem at its root, you get better outcomes. We built our award-winning, patient-centered care model for MSK conditions upon this premise, and we are thrilled to report the revalidation of its clinical outcomes from the Validation Institute.

The Validation Institute is an independent, objective third-party organization that advocates for greater transparency for health care buyers and high-value healthcare delivery via stronger health outcomes at lower cost. A team of Validation Institute epidemiologists and statisticians reviewed Vori Health’s back pain program and found that: “People who use Vori’s telemedicine interdisciplinary care program for low back pain are less likely to use imaging (x-ray and MRI), surgery, or injection services than similar patients. In addition, Vori program participants reduce their level of pain and improve their physical health status.”

This data illustrates the continued importance of whole-person care. Having a physician on the team is critical for getting a comprehensive evaluation and a correct diagnosis. But that’s only part of the equation. The table above shows that while physician-only multi-disciplinary models may reduce surgeries, expanding a team beyond physicians—that includes physical therapists, health coaches, and nutritionists who can provide patients with essential behavioral and lifestyle support (the Vori model)—drives even better outcomes.

Continued validation of our outcomes from the Validation Institute speaks directly to the power of Vori’s patient-centered care model,” says Mary O’Connor, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Vori Health. “By giving people with back and joint pain convenient access to the medical care they need when and where they need it, we’re able to improve outcomes and lower spend for one of healthcare’s most costly sectors. We’re thrilled to receive this repeat acknowledgement from the Validation Institute and look forward to more to come.”

To achieve an outcomes validation from the Validation Institute, a program must demonstrate measurable improvement in an outcome of importance as well as meet established criteria including evidence from published literature that a similar intervention had similar results, reliability and credibility of data sources, and rigor of the approach in calculating results.

Vori Health employs this validated care model in partnering with self-funded employers, forward-thinking health plans in value-based arrangements, as well as primary care and surgical practices to drive appropriate, evidence-based care and faster, cost-effective recoveries. Through these partnerships, Vori Health brings more patients closer to the standard of care they deserve—all while bringing down the total cost of care.
